Kineo is a cultural association that carries out study and research activities in the fields of audio-visual communications, drama and music.
The majority of the members of this association come from the "Ipotesi Cinema" experience, a group of motion-picture experts co-ordinated by Ermanno Olmi, and that has gradually been able to acquire a significant experience in movie, television and musical productions. Most of the remaining members of the association have instead had a principally theoretical and critical formation, that they developed both during the course of their university studies, and through specialisation courses or collaboration activities with publications specialising in cinema, art and literature. Furthermore, some members of the association also come from theatrical production experiences or had previously belonged to the teaching profession.
Though it was formally born in 1995, the real existence of Kineo Association dates back to 1991 when it actually started a project called "La Memoria" within the premises of the Municipal Council of Cadoneghe (Padua). The project consisted in the creation of a video work group that would produce films and documentaries of cultural interest in collaboration with various actors of the local reality (schools, public institutions, etc.). Contemporarily, the group would also organise public debates with the aim of helping the audience to reflect upon particular themes and aspects dealt with by the audio-visual production.
Integrating the common experiences of the past to the specific competence of its single members, today Kineo Association is involved in running a number of activities that include:
- The promotion, in collaboration with public and private institutions, of meetings, debates, conferences and workshops dealing with issues related to audio-visual communication.
- The realisation of didactic laboratories in schools and in public spaces dedicated to formation activities. This action specifically deals with the different methods of communication.
- Collaboration activities with centres for Scientific Documentation, and with the University, in co-ordination projects related to libraries, video-libraries, sound archives of motion picture and television history.
- The production of documentaries, of films, and of musical and theatrical events.
- The construction of a communication network (both in terms of material and telematics) capable of overcoming the geographical and cultural frontiers between countries, and that would therefore facilitate the production, exchange and interaction, in artistic works. This in its turn would to portray cultural diversity as a common source of social wealth, and therefore inevitably useful for the coexistence and growth of every community.
