MEMORY is the Europe-wide project written by "Kineo" Association and initiated by the Councillorship for Youth Policy, Youth Project of the City Council of Padua, with the contribution of the European progamme Culture 2000. Constructed around themes dealing with inter-generation relations and historical memory, the name MEMORY is an acronym that stands for Management of Emotions through Multimedial tools and Opinion exchanges to Reduce intolerance among Youth. The key idea is that of producing a series of video interviews featuring European citizens, coming from separate backgrounds and belonging to different affiliations, who had a direct experience of the Second World War. In each of the partner countries (besides Italy, the other countries involved in the project are Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Greece and Austria), an association similar to "Kineo" will interview people who personally lived through the crucial years of our history, but whose memories now run the risk of disappearing forever. It is, in fact, quite evident that such people are all very elderly by now; and besides this, nobody has ever really bothered to gather up their testimonials. Making a permanent recording of their voices, their faces and their stories would mean narrating an entire historical epoch; and not simply through books, but rather by means of the eye witness accounts of those who were physically present when history was taking place. This project is therefore intended to grant the younger generations their opportunity: to measure themselves up with these historical testimonials, to have access to otherwise forgotten memories, and, never to lose track of their predecessors.
